The WAY
to discipleship

Walking in the Spirit

The goal of Christian living and discipleship is to learn how to walk in the Spirit. We do not want to fulfill the lusts of the flesh, but want the fruit of the Spirit.

Dying with Christ is not the end, but the means. The end is to let Christ live His life through us. Paul tells in Second Corinthians how we walk in the Spirit. We disregard those things that contradict what the Bible tells us about our lives in Christ, and meditate on that which is unseen, the eternal Truth that dwells within us. Because so many believers and commentators have not believed in their death as a past event, what Paul says is commonly misunderstood.

Sound Doctrine Produces Healthy Spiritual Living

Sound doctrine is rooted in truth which is irrefutable. Sound doctrine carries the weight of genuine authority. When Jesus spoke it was with authority because His teaching was the truth.

It is clear from this verse that sound doctrine goes beyond just correct teaching, but has a transforming power of truth that motivates people to do the right thing. This force of truth causes the rebellious to resist it. The statement that "they will not endure sound doctrine" means the rebellious is experiencing conviction, and can't stand it, so they rush to deceitful teachers to justify their rebellious natures.

Spiritual Heads of the House

My marriage was transformed when I grabbed hold of a spiritual principle. That principle is found in 1 Cor. 11:3. "But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God." (1 Cor 11:3 KJV) This is how 1 Cor. 11:3 is usually viewed: God at the top. Christ beneath God. Man beneath Christ and Woman beneath Man. This is incorrect.

The true hierarchy of God is like a tree. At the bottom of the roots is God who is the source and life of everything. The trunk is Christ who upholds everything. The branches are Men drawing life from the roots through the trunk. And the beautiful flowers are the Women who are held up by the Men who are the branches. And children are the fruit that comes from the flowers.

The Struggle for Sonship

Jun 26, 2010
“If God is good, why is there evil in the world?” Frankly, I have never heard a good answer. But the answer is basic and foundational to our lives in Christ. First, let me reaffirm that God does not create evil, nor does He do any evil (James 1:13). Yet He takes full responsibility for the existence of evil. He fulfilled His responsibility for allowing evil into His creation on Calvary.

Evil can be summed up in one word: selfishness. The essence of godly love (agape) is selflessness: i.e., other centered. Whereas the essence of worldly love is self centered; i.e., what’s in it for me? So, why is there evil?
